Bayimba recognizes the need to raise the standards and appreciation of arts journalism in Uganda as an important element to develop the arts sector in the country. It has therefore organised a series of trainings to further individual professional skills and techniques in writing.

This year, the Bayimba Academy will organize a Bloggers’ Retreat. Designed to stretch the thinking, practical skills and techniques in the bloggers day-to-day roles – which include but not limited to – writing, managing, marketing, selling, creating, publishing, journalism, etc.

The retreat will start on the Wednesday 31st July and end on Sunday 4th August 2019 at the Bayimba International Festival on Lunkulu Island in Mukono. Only 10 bloggers will be selected to participate and the retreat programme will be led by Ms. Charlotte Beauvoisin (Diary of a Muzungu). You will receive transport to and from Kampala to the island, a free Full Festival Pass, camping gear, food and a modest facilitation.

The Bayimba Academy is now accepting applications from bloggers and journalists who wish attend. If selected, you are expected to attend the entire period of the retreat and you bring your own writing and production materials.

Submit the following information before 5th July 2019 to johnmary@bayimba.org:

  • a completed entry form, a profile/short biography (max. 200 words) with recent picture(s) that will be used for publicity, a motivation for your participation in the training (max. 200 words), a sample of a publication link to your blog or a PDF file.

Bayimba will confirm receipt of your entry form. A professional team will assess the submissions received and decide which individuals will participate in the 2019 Bloggers Retreat.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: 5th July 2019

Successful applicants will be notified by the 12th July 2019
