Course Details
The training is designed to enable practicing musicians to develop their musical skills so as to capitalize on reading and writing music, Harmony (Chords theory), Harmony (Scale and modes), Keyboard Harmony, Song writing and arrangement, Improvisation, online music distribution& marketing, Music Research, profile and proposal writing, voice ensemble playing, instrument skills and technique or improve your playing (guitar, piano and amadinda). Participants are to select days/or periods of the day to attend according to their needs and time constraints.
Who is the program for?
The training is targeting practicing musicians who would like to take their skills and understanding of music to higher level, aspirant or practicing producers, songwriters, instrumentalists, band leaders, choir masters, worship leaders, traditional troupe leaders, practicing vocalists. Classes available for beginners to intermediate and a select few for advanced.
Duration
The training will take place from the 10th -21st August 2015.
Venue
The training will be held at the Kampala Music School.
Trainers
The training will be facilitated by Kaz Kasozi (Music Director at Bayimba Cultural Foundation) and Anita Asaasira (Assistant lecturer at the Department of Performing Arts and Film, Makerere University).
As an educator, Kaz has conceived, designed & delivered various music, new media & multi-cultural art programs in schools & colleges in England for both youth and adults. He has also taught both privately and in institutions including being part of the Global Fusion Music & Arts team (UK) that devised & delivered an award winning music, film and multicultural training program [Africa 05] in 2005.Since 2007 Kaz has taught both privately and delivered music workshops and seminars in Uganda; from 2010 this has been done through the Bayimba Cultural Foundation teaching in different parts of the country. Kaz has sat on various panels in UK, Netherlands, Denmark and East Africa devising new methods of music training from which he has garnered some new ideas to approach music education in Uganda.
Anita Desire Asaasira is a graduate of Makerere University with Bachelor of Arts in Music and M.A Music (Ethnomusicology) degrees. Currently, Asaasira is an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Performing Arts and Film, Makerere University teaching introduction to twentieth century music analysis, performance skills, basic skills in audio-visual archiving, and foundations of Ugandan popular music, choir performance, voice, percussion, and Ethnomusicology. She is also an instructor at the Africa Institute of Music where she teaches African Ensemble performance, xylophone and ethnomusicology.
Fees
The fee for the 2015 Music Training is 100,000 UGX for the full 2 weeks of the training, to be paid prior to course beginning.
How to apply?
You are required to go through a competitive audition process. Auditions will be held on 29TH of June 2014 in the Green Room, National Theatre, Kampala from 9am to 5pm. You are required to register for auditions by completing and submitting the entry form by 29th of June 2015.
